Fortified Church

This church is named after one of Irelands 5th century female saints, St Moninna. It was a fortified church with a tower at the west end. Only the tower survives. The entrance to the tower, now blocked, was from the church. It was protected by a murder-hole. The only dressed stone I could see is the window in the south wall, pictured right. The other windows and opes have been robbed out. Older images all show the tower covered in ivy. All of it has been removed, but sadly the tower is in a poor state of repair. There is a metal fence around the tower for safety reasons. I removed it from the top image.

Situated: From Wexford Town Drive SW on the R733 for about 10 kilometres. Turn left at the crossroads. 1.4 K turn right. 140 metres turn right again. The church is about 500 metres down here on your right.
